Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is a condition that affects the feet and can cause persistent heel pain. The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that connects the base of your toes to your heel bone, and when this becomes inflamed, it's known as plantar fasciitis. This often painful condition is particularly common in athletes or those who participate in high-impact sports and activities.
At Fortitude & Freedom, we understand the importance of managing heel pain and helping our clients get back to their favorite activities. We can diagnose your condition, create a customized treatment plan, and work with you to resolve pain and regain your active lifestyle.
Causes of Plantar Fasciitis
Overuse injury caused by recent increase in load or activity, which occurs when the plantar fascia is strained beyond its normal capacity. This can be due to repetitive strain on the tissue (such as in athletes) or an imbalance in the muscles of the hip, calf, foot, and ankle that causes stress on the plantar fascia.

Stress intolerance of the lower leg and foot: People whose feet tend to pronate (roll inwards) when they walk or run are particularly susceptible to plantar fasciitis, as this movement places more stress on the plantar fascia.

Muscle weakness of the trunk, hip, lower leg, and foot: Weak or imbalanced muscles can cause excessive strain on the plantar fascia, leading to inflammation and heel pain.

Tightness of the muscles of the lower leg: If the calf muscles are too tight, this can cause tension in the plantar fascia and lead to inflammation.

Limited mobility of joints in the ankle, foot, and toes: Limited joint mobility in the lower leg and foot can also lead to excessive strain on the plantar fascia, resulting in inflammation.
